How It All Began (The Story Behind the Story)

When it comes to education, we believe the most valuable lessons come from real world experience (not from just reading a book).

That’s why we gave our son Riser the option to start a business around something he was interested in doing:

Mowing lawns.

(Stick with me, we are not soliciting lawn mowing services here).

Before we had kids, we were fortunate to learn that you can educate your kids at a high level (and have them enjoy it) by focusing their lessons around a topic they are actually interested in.

Some of you are familiar with “Interest-Led Learning.”

Since Riser liked mowing lawns, we decided to start a business together.

Nothing crazy, just 1-2 hours per week.

Something that was designed to be fun, help him gain real world experience, and most importantly…LEARN.

We learned about math (revenue minus expenses = profits).

We learned about spelling, writing, and reading (creating flyers and thank you notes to customers).

We learned about economics (determining what people want, how to offer value in a unique way, and that it’s okay if someone doesn’t want your service).

We learned about hard work (and specifically, doing the job consistently even if you didn’t feel like it because there was something else more “fun” at the moment).

We learned about finances (allocating profits to different investments, some to fun, and some to give away).

Not to mention, all the intangibles and soft skills.

I could go on, but you get the idea.

Fortunately, or unfortunately, summer came to an end and so did the opportunity to mow lawns in our area.

At that point we asked ourselves:

“What would allow us to be connected and keep our kids learning in an engaging way?”

After careful consideration and reflection…

We realized we all liked testing out different products, experiences, and systems.

Like you, we care about maximizing our time, experiences and financial future with our family.

So together, with our (what we believe to be) unique skillsets, we (Brian, Sarah, Riser and Haven) have researched, purchased, tried out, loved, returned and been let down by many products and services over the years in our quest to find things that would truly enhance our lives and are REALLY worth the hype.

After several conversations with friends and family, we realized there was an actual demand for something like “bconnectd.”

So here we are…

Connecting families with young kids with the most relevant products, experiences, and systems so they can spend their time and resources in a meaningful way…without feeling overwhelmed by the endless options (and frustration finding return bags that weren’t destroyed when opening).

This is designed to be a helpful email from a friend who is ingredient conscious (we said conscious, not perfect), doesn’t believe the most expensive product is the best (we love a good knock off) and will recommend the best product, experience or system whether there is an affiliate link or not.

And our favorite part, we get to personally connect with you and share what our family is up to and have a more intimate dialogue (sorry Facebook, we need more connection).
