Hostage Tape (Not what you think)
How bad is mouth breathing is for your health?
I feel like I may have been the only one who didn’t realize mouth breathing is terrible for you.
To be fair, I’d heard of people taping their mouth shut so they could breathe through their nose…
But I thought it was:
1) Weird
2) Not that important
3) Unrealistic for me
Turns out I couldn’t be more wrong.
After after getting hit with numerous ads for a specific brand of mouth tape called “Hostage Tape” I decided to give it a try for myself.
Their pitch was compelling…
And you could probably say I was “primed to buy” since I’d actually listened to YouTube interviews from James Nestor (author of the book “Breathe”)…
In addition, I’d been down the rabbit hole of Dr. Andrew Huberman’s recommendations for great sleep.
(Now that I’m thinking about it, maybe this is why I was targeted with their ads 👀)
To say I was hesitant was an understatement
I was most hesitant to test it out because I had never breathed through my nose for an entire night. Plus, I didn’t think I would be able to do it (and was kinda freaked out about actually being able to breathe).
But I eventually came to the realization that continuing to breathe through my health had some significant consequences.
According to experts:
Outside of causing things like cavities and poor oral health, it can even change the shape of your face and lead to dental problems like crooked teeth and a misaligned jaw.
Not to mention breathing through your mouth reduces the amount of oxygen that gets to your lungs, making you feel more tired and affecting your concentration.
I couldn’t afford to have poor energy or concentration for my family.
Finally the night came that I finally mustered up the courage to put the tape on my mouth.
I’m a bit embarrassed to admit this, but it took me a few minutes after putting it on to calm down and realize that I could actually breathe through my nose.
Shortly thereafter I fell asleep.
When I woke up in the morning I couldn’t believe how I felt:
It was like my lungs had never breathed oxygen before.
Seriously.
The feeling in my chest is kind of tough to explain, but I could definitely tell something was different (in a good way).
More importantly, there was a noticeable difference that day in my focus and energy…
Which translated into me being a better husband, dad, and business owner.
Long story short, I decided to implement mouth taping into my lifestyle.
(Yes, I liked Hostage Tape because it was more flexible and comfortable, unlike athletic tape or other types that people try to use to save money)
After 6+ months of using mouth tape on and off, I can say my biggest challenge has been consistency - the biggest culprit being our 4 year old daughter waking me up in the middle of the night (and needing to take off the tape to talk to her).
Our family also got sick around Christmas and that derailed me for a bit.
Other than those challenges, I’m a huge fan of using Hostage Tape. I feel more energy and focus in the morning…even to the point where I don’t feel the need for any kind of caffeine.
We will see if Sarah follows suit.
She likes it when I’m the Guinea pig, I guess?
Want to avoid all the negatives of mouth breathing?
If you want to potentially avoid more cavities, reducing snoring, not jacking up your jawline or looking uglier…all while gaining more energy, focus and concentration…
Then we recommend checking out Hostage Tape (no affiliate link).
As you’ll see there are different options. We would actually recommend against getting a full years supply, because you just might train yourself to breathe without the tape inside of 90 days.
Of course, we aren’t medical professionals giving any kind of advice, just here sharing our own personal experience. Consult your physician before you do anything, right??
Successful disclaimer complete. lol
Let us know your experience if you are brave enough to test it out!
Until next time, own what matters : )
